Methods for fineness number:-

Formula
                                            E                     Total of E
Fineness number =   _________      =     ___________
                                             C                    Total of C

The percentage of the retained grains on each sieve and the pan is two be multiplied with the multiplier and the results are to be added. This sum is divided by the total percentage retained sand grains.

Precaution:-

·         Keep the instrument clean and tidy.
·         Remove sand grains from each sieves using a soft brush.
·         Before tighten the knob ensure the sieves are fitted exactly into each other.
